Natural Stone Cleaning

Natural stone adds beauty and durability to your home and when properly taken care of it will reward you with years and years of use. In fact one of the oldest stone floors in the world is supposedly 7000 years old. Now I don’t know about you but I don’t plan on keeping my floor that long.

Proper Maintenance

Different stones have different characteristics, for instance granite is extremely dense making it highly durable and more resistant to chemicals, staining and scratching when compared to marble or travertine which is why granite is a better choice for counter tops.

Whether your stone is dense like granite or the soft like limestone, sealer is highly recommended. Only neutral Ph cleaning agents specifically made for stone should be used for routine maintenance. Clean up all spills immediately since given enough time staining could occur and stains are extremely difficult to remove. Steps should be taken to prevent gritty abrasive dry soils from being tracked onto stone floors; such as walk off mats at entry point and routine dust mopping.

Stone floors should be professionally cleaned, polished and resealed a minimum of every 3 to 5 years depending on traffic. Counter tops should be resealed yearly.
